![]() ![]() Starting about 5-6 years ago, I started ripping everything at 320K CBR, and the main difference between that and something that 'sounds the same even though it's only 192K' comes down to when you use your EQs to transition. Where there's a number of frequencies bouncing around, especially modern recordings where everything is compressed to death anyways, anything below 256, and the highs become noticeably splashy/phase-y from the compression artifacts, the mids lack punch (which is where all your volume is gonna come from), and the lows become all muddled together. For 'busier' live music like rock/funk/etc. Things like that don't sound quite as nasty when chopped down to lower bitrates, since things are pretty well defined in what constitutes their lows/mids/highs. ![]()
